Calculation lifecycle

From a typed measurement to a cautious result.

RoomFact calculators are planning screens. Their purpose is to make a comparison legible, preserve its assumptions, and identify the physical condition that still needs confirmation.

01Normalize the inputs
Length entries are converted to a shared metric value before a formula runs. Required fields, positive-number checks, and tool-specific limits catch incomplete or implausible entries without silently replacing them.
02Run one declared model
Each tool owns a narrow calculation such as remaining wall clearance, paintable area, material quantity, or a rectangular access screen. The formula version in the registry identifies the rule set used for that result.
03Assign a decision state
Results use plain-language states such as pass, check, or pause. Thresholds help surface small margins, but they are planning conventions rather than building codes, delivery approvals, or guarantees of comfort.
04Name what is missing
The result and editorial notes identify conditions the model cannot observe: measurement error, non-square openings, approach angles, structure, local requirements, product tolerances, and professional handling decisions.

Canonical metric calculations

Length formulas calculate in centimeters, areas in square meters, and volumes in cubic meters. Imperial entries are converted before calculation and formatted back for the result.

Confidence

Planning screen, not hidden certainty

Each page labels general assumptions and limitations. Safety, code, structure, installation, and delivery guarantees remain outside the calculator.

Versioning

Changes remain traceable.

A formula version changes when calculation logic, a decision threshold, or a material assumption changes. Editorial wording and visual-only fixes may update without changing the formula version. The reviewed date records the most recent check of the published implementation and supporting explanation.

Source status is deliberately visible. A verified tool has source-backed reference material for the claim being made; a provisional entry remains in the queue until the supporting claim is narrowed, replaced, or verified. RoomFact does not convert a retailer recommendation into a universal requirement.

Users can report a questionable result through the contact page. Reproducible calculation defects are corrected in the shared tool logic, checked against existing tests, and documented under the corrections policy.
