RoomFact / CF-1.0Independent shortlist comparison

Three tabs open.
One real room.

Compare two or three furniture options against the exact same wall, walking path, opening, and delivery route. No retailer catalog and no account.

Original RoomFact method / CF-1.0

A comparison that keeps failures visible.

Retail photos, product labels, and room scenes are not a common measuring system. This method removes those distractions and asks a narrower question: which shortlisted item leaves the strongest measured margin in the same real space?

01 / The decision

Why one room record matters

Comparing candidates one at a time makes it easy to change an assumption without noticing. One sofa may be checked against the full wall while another is checked against the space between a radiator and a door. One product may use its assembled size while another uses a shipping carton. The answers look comparable even though the inputs are not.

RoomFact holds the wall, clear floor depth, desired walking path, tightest opening, and route type constant. Only the furniture dimensions change. That makes the result useful for an actual shortlist: two or three products from any mix of retailers, evaluated under the same constraints and in the same units.

The workspace deliberately does not import a retailer catalog. Product listings change, package data can be incomplete, and a sponsored catalog could influence which options appear. You choose the candidates and copy the dimensions from the current product pages.

02 / The ordering rule

No blended score can hide a failed doorway.

The comparison first orders candidates by overall result: no failed checks, caution only, then one or more failed checks. It next compares the number of failures and cautions. Only after those safety gates does it use the smallest remaining measured margin as a tie-breaker.

Minimum measured marginmin(side clearance, walkway surplus, opening width margin, opening height margin)

This is intentionally not a percentage score. A wide wall cannot compensate for a sofa that misses the opening, and a generous doorway cannot restore the walking path. If two candidates have the same result pattern and the same minimum margin, RoomFact reports a tie instead of inventing a winner.

The route check is categorical. Selecting a turn, stair, or elevator holds every candidate at “physical check needed” because a rectangular opening calculation cannot model corner geometry, handrails, sloped ceilings, elevator interiors, or the working room required by a delivery crew.

03 / Reproducible example

Same apartment, three synthetic sofas

The loaded example uses a 360 cm usable wall, 210 cm of clear floor depth, a 90 cm walking-path target, and an 81 × 203 cm opening with a straight approach. These are demonstration values chosen to exercise the method; they are not averages, standards, or product recommendations.

CandidateOutside dimensionsPath surplusOpening marginOutcome
Compact sofa204 × 88 × 79 cm32 cm12 cmStrongest measured fit
Standard sofa220 × 96 × 82 cm24 cm11 cmPasses, ranked second
Deep-seat sofa232 × 126 × 92 cm6 cm short1 cmPause: path fails

The compact option leads because it has no failed or caution checks and its smallest measured margin is 12 cm. The standard option also clears the screen, but its opening margin is 11 cm. The deep-seat option is not rescued by its wall clearance: it leaves only 84 cm of open floor against a 90 cm target.

04 / Measurement discipline

Use the dimensions that match the job.

For placement, enter the fully assembled outside width, depth, and height. Include fixed arms, projecting trim, recliner controls, and any part that occupies the room. For the route, subtract only parts the manufacturer or retailer confirms can be removed for delivery. Loose cushions are different from an arm or back that requires tools or voids a warranty.

Measure the clear opening inside the frame with the door in its delivery position. Hinges, handles, thresholds, trim, and a door that does not open flat can reduce usable space. Record the tightest point on the entire route, not simply the front door. If the item ships in several cartons or modules, compare the largest relevant package or module as a separate candidate.

The walking-path target is your decision, not a hidden RoomFact recommendation. Choose it for the people and activities in the room, then confirm applicable accessibility, building, fire, and lease requirements with the responsible authority. A calculator result is not a code-compliance or accessibility determination.

05 / Boundaries and sources

What this comparison cannot prove

The engine treats furniture and openings as simplified rectangular frames. It does not simulate flexible upholstery, rotation through a three-dimensional turn, packaging compression, furniture disassembly, floor slope, lifting technique, or the judgment of a delivery team. A “pass” means the entered first checks clear; it is not a delivery guarantee.

RoomFact developed the CF-1.0 ordering method and the synthetic worked comparison for this page. The external references below support the measurement process, not the ranking. No products were supplied, no retailer paid for inclusion, and no real-world delivery test is being claimed.
