The short answer
  • UPPLAND is 8 cm narrower than KIVIK when assembled, but its frame box is 58 cm longer than KIVIK's longest frame box.
  • In the sample room, all three fit the wall. Only GLOSTAD preserves the selected 90 cm path at 180 cm clear floor depth.
  • Use assembled dimensions for placement and every actual package for delivery. One set cannot answer both questions.

Published dimensions, side by side

All dimensions are centimeters. Assembled sizes are width x depth x height; boxes are length x width x height. Sources are the exact IKEA Canada articles linked below, checked September 9, 2026.

How much walking space would be left?

Sample room: 200 cm clear wall. Change the depth to the next obstruction and the path you want to keep. All values are in centimeters.

01

Why we compared these three

A shopping shortlist usually starts with outside width: will the loveseat fit on the wall? These three published listings let us test a second question with real numbers: does the order from smallest to largest stay the same when we compare delivery packages? We used the Canadian product and frame article numbers above so the comparison can be repeated.

It does not stay the same. Assembled width puts GLOSTAD first, UPPLAND second, and KIVIK third. Longest listed package puts GLOSTAD first, KIVIK second, and UPPLAND third. The result is useful because choosing the narrower sofa does not necessarily reduce the long object that must be positioned at a hallway turn.

02

The 200 cm wall is not the deciding measurement

For the worked room, we chose a 200 cm clear wall, 180 cm from that wall to an opposing obstruction, and a 90 cm path to preserve. These are invented room constraints for a reproducible example. The 90 cm target is a user preference in this exercise, not a claim about a legal or accessible minimum.

Subtracting each outside width from 200 cm leaves 79 cm for GLOSTAD, 18 cm for UPPLAND, and 10 cm for KIVIK. Centering them would leave 39.5, 9, and 5 cm at each side respectively. All three have positive wall clearance. But subtracting their depths from 180 cm leaves paths of 102, 88, and 85 cm. Two candidates fit the wall and still miss the chosen path.

03

A five-centimeter change alters the room result

Move the opposing obstruction so the clear depth becomes 185 cm. The three remaining paths become 107, 93, and 90 cm. KIVIK now exactly reaches the selected target; UPPLAND exceeds it by 3 cm. A result at the boundary has no spare allowance for an uneven wall, protruding trim, or measurement error.

That distinction is more useful than a universal best-sofa ranking. GLOSTAD preserves the most floor space in this example, but this analysis does not evaluate whether its seating area, feel, or construction meets your needs. If the deeper option is preferred, first establish whether the opposing furniture can actually move those extra centimeters without obstructing another route.

04

Delivery reverses part of the shortlist

UPPLAND's listed frame box is 203 cm long, which is 21 cm longer than its 182 cm assembled width. KIVIK's longest frame box is 145 cm, which is 45 cm shorter than its 190 cm assembled width. Comparing the two boxes directly gives a 58 cm difference even though the assembled loveseats differ by only 8 cm in width. This is why the delivery record needs its own dimensions.

Package count matters too. The KIVIK frame is divided between two boxes, so a check of the longer one alone is not a complete record. A shorter box can still have the limiting cross-section or weight on another order. Our table includes both frame boxes and their listed weights; the separate cover package must be added from the exact cover article before arranging a collection or delivery.

05

What an 80 cm doorway can and cannot tell you

As a geometry exercise, consider an 80 cm wide and 200 cm high clear opening. Pointing each box's listed length straight through the doorway leaves its other two sides to compare with the opening. Rotating that face in the opening plane gives 21 x 67 cm for GLOSTAD, 44 x 92 cm for UPPLAND, and 52 x 94 cm plus 49 x 54 cm for the KIVIK frame boxes. Those rectangles are each smaller than 80 x 200 cm.

This does not establish a deliverable route. It assumes that the box can be carried in that orientation, that its length can be aligned before the door, and that enough space exists to receive it afterward. The 203 cm box is not automatically excluded by a 200 cm door height when its length points through the opening, but a short hallway may prevent that position. Handles, door hardware, packaging condition, carrying space, and turns still need a delivery-team assessment.

06

Build a record the seller can verify

Make two lists before checkout. The room list needs the assembled outside dimensions, clear wall width, depth to the next obstruction, and the path you want left. The delivery list needs every package in the order, the smallest clear openings, and a sketch of changes in direction. Keep the article numbers and units beside the numbers so the seller can identify the same configuration.

If the seller proposes removing packaging or parts, ask for the dimensions of the resulting rigid pieces and confirmation that this is how the order will be delivered. A removable fabric cover does not itself prove that the underlying frame becomes smaller. Keep the original packaging record until the delivery method is settled. For a secondhand assembled sofa, recheck the actual piece; a new-product box list describes a different delivery state.

Reproduce the room decision

Use the exact published depths above with the sample clear floor depth. The interactive comparison on this page uses the same subtraction.

Clear wall
200 cm
Depth to obstruction
180 cm
Chosen path
90 cm
Minimum depth needed
168 / 182 / 185 cm: GLOSTAD / UPPLAND / KIVIK
  1. GLOSTAD: 180 - 78 = 102 cm of path; 102 - 90 = 12 cm above the chosen target.
  2. UPPLAND: 180 - 92 = 88 cm of path; 88 - 90 = a 2 cm shortfall.
  3. KIVIK: 180 - 95 = 85 cm of path; 85 - 90 = a 5 cm shortfall.
  4. For any candidate, required clear depth = assembled depth + chosen path. Remeasure before treating an exact match as workable.
Planning result

GLOSTAD is the only candidate that preserves this sample path without moving the opposing obstruction. This room result says nothing about comfort or final delivery approval.

RoomFact calculated these results from published specifications. No sofa was purchased, physically measured, or delivered for this study. Room dimensions are hypothetical.

Common questions

What readers usually need to verify next

Is this an IKEA recommendation or paid comparison?

No. RoomFact selected these listings to examine how assembled and packaged dimensions can produce different ordering. The links are ordinary source references; RoomFact receives no affiliate payment from them. IKEA has not sponsored or approved this study.

Why does the frame box matter more than the sofa width at a turn?

For a new boxed delivery, the crew must maneuver the shipped objects. An assembled sofa width may be either longer or shorter than those objects. The package record describes what arrives; the room footprint describes what occupies the floor after assembly.

Can I use these numbers outside Canada?

Use the dimensions for the exact article and market on your own order. A shared family name does not establish identical packaging, construction, or dimensions. Our source check is dated September 9, 2026 and is not a live inventory or specification feed.
