This calculator tests one specific arrangement: a rectangular bed centered on its headboard wall, with one optional bedside piece on each side and one closed furniture projection from the opposite wall. It reports the equal side route, whether each bedside piece fits its side bay, and the route left at the foot after the bed and opposite furniture are counted.
Those are three different checks. A bed can clear the walls while a nightstand is wider than its bay. Both bedside pieces can fit while a dresser reduces the foot route below the target chosen for the household. Separating the results prevents a mattress-size comparison from becoming an optimistic room-layout answer and points to the dimension that should change before a purchase.
Worked example
The side bays work, but the dresser narrows the foot route
A 300 x 330 cm room has a bed frame 160 cm wide and projecting 210 cm from the headboard wall. The left bedside piece is 55 cm wide, the right is 45 cm, and a dresser projects 45 cm from the opposite wall. The household tests 65 cm side routes and a 90 cm foot route.

How RoomFact reads it
Centering the bed leaves 70 cm on each side, so both bedside pieces fit and the side route is 5 cm above its target. The bed and dresser leave 330 - 210 - 45 = 75 cm at the foot, which is 15 cm below the selected foot-route target. RoomFact returns a foot-route review rather than calling the room a fit.
The bed width is not the failed measurement. A narrower frame would add side space but would not recover the missing foot-route depth.
A shallower dresser, a different wall for storage, or a shorter complete bed projection addresses the controlling dimension directly.
The 90 cm target belongs to this example. It is not presented as a universal accessibility or building-code requirement.

Define one bed orientation before measuring
Choose the wall that will receive the headboard and label the left and right sides while facing that wall. Measure the finished room width across the headboard wall and the finished length from that wall to the opposite wall. Do not substitute the largest dimensions from an irregular room; a chimney breast, radiator, angled corner, or built-in can shorten the exact line used by the furniture.
This calculator centers the bed because it makes the arithmetic and tradeoff explicit. It is not a claim that every bed should be centered. A small room may work better with one side against a wall, an offset bed, a single bedside piece, or a different orientation. Save those as separate scenarios in the full planner instead of averaging unlike layouts into one result.

Measure the frame in its installed position
Use the complete outside frame width, not the mattress name. Upholstered rails, posts, wings, storage mechanisms, and decorative trim can extend beyond the mattress. For projection, measure from the headboard wall to the furthest foot-end edge after adding any deliberate wall gap, skirting conflict, angled headboard, or manufacturer-required operating space behind the frame.
Storage beds need a second operating test. Side drawers, a lifting platform, or a trundle can occupy space that appears clear while closed. The calculator records the normal closed arrangement; tape or draw the open mechanism separately and check whether the necessary person can stand where the drawer or platform needs to move.

Keep bedside fit separate from side access
When the bed is centered, each side bay is half of the room width left after subtracting the bed width. RoomFact compares each bedside piece with that bay independently because a wider chest on one side can fail even when a smaller table fits on the other. Enter zero for a side that intentionally has no piece rather than inventing a symmetrical pair.
The side-route target describes the clear width beside the bed beyond the head-area furniture. A bedside piece can fit the bay and still interrupt movement near the headboard because its depth, drawers, handles, lamp cord, or projecting top occupies part of that route. Tape the complete footprint, make the bed, stand up from each used side, and open every drawer before accepting the on-paper margin.

Calculate the foot route from closed furniture, then open it
The available foot route is room length minus bed projection minus the closed projection of the opposite dresser, wardrobe, bench, desk, or other obstacle. Measure the furniture from the wall to its nearest front edge. A wall-mounted television does not consume floor depth by itself, while a deep media cabinet below it does. Enter zero only when the opposite wall is clear on the line being tested.
A closed-furniture pass is only the starting state. Add drawer or door projection and the body position needed to use the storage, then test whether that activity can temporarily block the route. Draw room and wardrobe doors, windows, radiators, floor vents, and the path to the bathroom in the full planner. Use applicable professional guidance where mobility, emergency egress, or legal accessibility requirements affect the decision.

Read the result as a shortlist, not permission to order
The formulas are intentionally visible: centered side space is room width minus bed width, divided by two; bedside margin is that side space minus each bedside width; foot route is room length minus bed projection and opposite-furniture projection. The tightest route margin compares the side and foot routes with the two targets you entered. No hidden comfort score changes those numbers.
